Tips to Declutter Your El Dorado County Home in 2017!

by Diane Broussard

This weekend marks the start of the New Year. It's time to set your New Year's resolutions for 2017. While many people set health goals for themselves as part of their resolutions, we recommend putting your home on a diet! The easiest way to do so....Declutter! All of our homes could use some trimming this year. Follow these great New Year’s Resolutions to get your El Dorado County home in tip top shape for 2017.

Start with simple daily steps. You can start the process with easy tasks that will help keep the accumulation of stuff to a minimum as the New Year progresses. For example, avoid allowing your mail to accumulate in the kitchen. Everyday when it is delivered, toss the junk mail and put the letters and bills that you need to keep in a single place. Simple, daily steps such as this will ensure that excess waste is not being kept in your home.

Find Creative Storage Solutions. We all have problems finding the perfect spot for some of our things. For items that you want to keep in your house but have run out of space for, try to find smart storage solutions for them. For example, this DIY project turns your books into shelves, freeing up space on your bookshelves and creating a cool decorative element within your home.

Be objective. We all are guilty of attaching value to our things. This is part of the reason why we accumulate so much stuff within our homes. It is time to accurately assess what we truly need and use. Try to set a goal for the amount of items you would like to get rid of in the New Year. Once you have gone through your home and gathered the items, determine what can be donated and what needs to be tossed. For donations, check out Oprah's list Where to Get Rid of Your Stuff to find places in California that accept all different kinds of donations. For items to be tossed, Waste Management offers a Residential Bagster, which works as a dumpster but is lightweight and portable. Once you have filled it, you can schedule a pickup and watch the items disappear.

Wishing you a happy and prosperous New Year!

There are many different Christmas gift options from bottles, tastings, and tours! Check out Fair Play Wineries for a list of the amazing wineries in Fairplay for ideas. If you are interested in buying someone a winery tour, check out the great options through Sierra Wine Experience out of Folsom.

El Dorado County is horse country! If you have someone on your list that loves horses, consider signing them up for horseback riding lessons! There are many fantastic ranches in the area, including Horseback Paradise Ranch Equestrian Center (4381 Paradise Lane, Placerville) and

Sundance Springs Ranch (3261 Shingle Springs Drive, Shingle Springs).

The Sierra Nevada Mountains offer incredible natural settings throughout El Dorado County. Give the gift of the great outdoors this Christmas with America the Beautiful Passes or California State Parks Passes. The National Park passes are $80 for an annual pass and allow access to nearby El Dorado National Forest. There are many different options for passes through California State Parks. This is a great gift for any outdoor enthusiast in El Dorado County due to the large concentration of state parks in the area. Passes will give your loved one access to Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park, Rattlesnake Bar State Park, Folsom Powerhouse State Historic Park, Prairie City State Park, Folsom Lake State Recreation Area, and more!

Is there someone who loves winter in your family? Give them a gift that allows them ample time outside in the snow! Buy them a 90 minute skate session at the historic Folsom Ice Rink (Reading Street, Folsom). If they love to hit the slopes, buy a season pass and/or lift tickets for them at Kirkwood Mountain.

We love the holiday season. It’s time to spend time with family and friends, enjoy good food, and partake in all the festive traditions. Part of the fun of the season is decorating your home. However, if your home is on the market this season, you want to make sure that you decorate in a way that will attract potential home buyers. Follow these decorating tips for selling your El Dorado County home this holiday season!

Start with your home’s curb appeal. Since this is the first impression buyers will have, be mindful of your outdoor decorations. Keep it classic and simple with strings of lights. Placement is key. Be sure to hang or wrap the lights in places that draw attention to your home’s architecture or landscaping.

Now that the outside of your home is ready, it’s time to scrub down your home. The surest way to make your house look well maintained and move in ready is by doing a thorough cleaning. At this point, you should also stage your home as you would at any time of year. Go through and declutter each room. Only leave out items that are essential or highlight the functionality of a space.

Although you have lots of fun holiday decorations, now is not the time to fill your home to the brim. Always remember that less is more. You do not want home buyers to be so distracted by your festive decor that they can not focus on the features of your actual home. Think about the current decor in your home and find ways to complement it. Accent your paint colors with decorations in a complementary color.

A Christmas tree is a staple of the season and can be used to your advantage when staging your home. Pick an appropriate size tree that highlights the space of the room that you put it in. Decor like Christmas trees or other culturally accepted symbols of the season are great items to use in your home. Try to keep the large displays of religious decor in storage this year since all the potential buyers viewing your home might celebrate different holidays.

Before a showing, make your home extra warm and cozy by adding festive scents. Smells of freshly baked cookies, cinnamon, or evergreen are great accents that will fill buyers with holiday cheer!

Tips for Finding Your El Dorado County Dream Home!

by Andy Hall

Looking for your dream home in El Dorado County? It is no surprise why! With amazing communities to choose from, beautiful natural areas, incredible ranch homes, and excellent amenities, this county in California is the perfect place to settle down. Finding the perfect home can be an overwhelming process. You want to choose a home that will fit all of your family’s lifestyle and needs now and into the future. Follow these tips for finding your El Dorado County Dream Home!

Prioritize your must haves!

There are all different kinds of homes available in El Dorado County. In order to help you navigate through all the options, you need to first determine what features are most important to you. Decide how many bedrooms and bathrooms you need. Prioritize what additional features and amenities that you must have or can live without. Are you looking for a horse property or one in a quiet suburban neighborhood? Does your family want a more natural setting or metropolitan one? Determining all of these “must-haves” will help you narrow your home search. Be cognizant of what you desire in a home as well as what features are deal breakers. Always stay flexible with your expectations though! You might find your dream home has features that you were not expecting that you wanted!

Establish your price range.

Before you start actively searching for your home, it is advisable to secure Financing  first. This allows you to know what you can actually afford. Once you know your real price range, you will avoid wasting time looking at homes that are outside of your budget.

Begin your search online.

The internet is a helpful tool in today’s real estate market. You are able to browse through home listings on your own time. This process can be overwhelming, though, as you try to navigate through all of the online pages. Our MLS Listings helps you narrow down your search by choosing unique options. Search by specific community, property type, school district, location, amenities, and so much more!

If you cannot find your dream home during your own search or simply do not have the time to look on your own, sign up for our Email Home Search! Once you select your search criteria, you will receive an initial email that lists all homes currently for sale that match it. Every morning thereafter you will be emailed an updated list with price changes or new listings. This allows you to be the first to know when the El Dorado County home you’ve been waiting for hits the market!

Select a knowledgeable realtor.

Working with an Experienced Realtor can make a huge difference when looking for your dream home. A knowledgeable realtor knows all about the local area, market trends, financing regulations, and more. They are experienced in handling the negotiations and paperwork that come along with the home buying process, eliminating potential stress and confusion for you every step of the way. We will listen to all of your desires for your El Dorado County home and make sure to show you the homes that meet your expectations.

Schedule Home Showings.

Now that you have narrowed down your search, ask your realtor to set up showings with each of the homes you are interested in. Home viewings are your opportunity to see the house itself as well as the neighborhood that it is located in. As you search the home, make sure to thoroughly inspect its exterior and interior and ask questions! You want to be fully informed in your decision. It can be helpful to bring a notepad to jot down anything you notice about the house to assist you as you continue the process. You are about to make a major investment so you want to make sure that you love the home and do not have any concerns about it.

Be patient.

Finding your dream home is a process. You might be lucky and find it immediately or you might have to search many homes before you finally find it. Work with your realtor throughout the process to help you along the way. We will keep searching for you until all of your needs are met. And once you find it! We will help you secure your El Dorado County dream home for you and your family to enjoy for years to come!
